Post-News Charities, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, is proud to support local literacy efforts as well as programs that serve low-income youth. Since the programs inception in 1997, Post-News Charities has distributed more than $24,399,000 to Denver-area nonprofit organizations in support of their work to improve the quality of life in our community. In 2007 alone, 30 organizations received $499,500 from Post-News Charities.
Funds for Post-News Charities are raised through events and partnerships throughout the year. These funds are matched at 50 cents on the dollar by the McCormick Tribune Foundation, and one hundred percent of the funds are distributed to local nonprofit agencies.

Post-News Charities raises money primarily through events and partnerships with organizations in the metro-Denver community. Some of the events that benefit Post-News Charities include:
Unique Lives & Experiences
The Denver Post Unique Lives & Experiences lecture series is designed to motivate, challenge and enlighten audiences as they learn from the personal experiences of the series’ distinguished speakers. A portion of the proceeds from VIP ticket sales for this series goes to Post-News Charities.
Passport to the Arts
Passport to the Arts is a one-of-a-kind performing arts sampler series offering a diverse combination of Denver’s best music, theatre, dance and opera performances. Offered twice a year, Passport to the Arts provides patrons with great seats to Denver’s hottest live performing arts events. All proceeds from Passport to the Arts benefit Post-News Charities.
Pen & Podium
The Post-News Pen & Podium series is a literary lecture series featuring some of the world’s most thought-provoking and notable writers and authors presenting original talks about their work. All proceeds from Pen & Podium benefit Post-News Charities.
Ride The Rockies
The Denver Post Ride The Rockies is an annual bicycle tour that takes 2,000 cyclists on a six- to seven-day ride on paved roads through Colorado’s Rocky Mountains each June. The Ride The Rockies route is different each year, but always climbs a few challenging mountain passes and showcases Colorado's spectacular scenery. All proceeds from Ride The Rockies benefit Post-News Charities.
Denver Food & Wine Classic
More than 3,000 food and wine enthusiasts gather each year to experience the largest single-day food and wine tasting in Denver. Guests enjoy tastings of more than 300 featured wines, spirits and cuisine, as well as a wine auction, steel chef competition and culinary demonstrations. Post-News Charities is proud to be one of the beneficiaries of this event.
How to Apply For Funding
Post-News Charities accepts requests for application packets throughout the year, though decisions are made and grants are distributed on a quarterly basis.
Application Procedures
Please provide a letter of intent of no more than two pages that outlines your organization’s mission and/or programs and how this mission and/or programs fit with Post-News Charities’ guidelines. Please also include a copy of your organization’s most recent audit and/or IRS Form 990. This letter should be on the organization’s letterhead and can be sent to:

Guidelines
Post-News Charities funds Denver-area nonprofits that fit one or both of the following guidelines:
- Direct-service literacy programs
- Programs/services for low-income youth (primarily through arts and cultural institutions; after-school and tutoring programs and other community organizations.
Other requirements include:
- Applicants must be classified as a 501(c)(3) organization by the Internal Revenue Service.
- Applicants must be headquartered in and serve individuals in the seven-county metro-Denver area (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties.)
- Applicant agencies must be in operation for more than one year.
Funding for the following will not be considered:
- Capital funding
- Individual schools
- Individual persons
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
2008 Deadlines
Please submit your letter of intent well in advance of the application deadline to allow for processing of your request as well as ample time to complete the application. Applications must be received by the deadline to be considered. Remaining deadlines for 2008 are:
